The College Planning process is not easy. That’s why we are here to help you!
Hopefully these Frequently Asked Questions will answer YOUR question:
Why hire a college planner?
Personalized college counseling for students is a challenge for even the most experienced high school guidance counselor. In addition, budget cuts at many institutions have forced schools to eliminate college counseling positions. As a result, college related resources are often unavailable, not current or limited. Students and parents need to get the individualized attention and gain the knowledge they deserve to maximize opportunities.
The college admissions landscape is becoming increasingly competitive and complex.
Students and parents must remain current as college application requirements at universities change from year to year.
Standardized Tests
The College Project offers three, five-week, ACT prep courses each year prior to the October, March, and June test dates, with the goal of helping students understand how to take the test as well as providing plenty of opportunities to practice what we teach. We also offer individualized prep sessions throughout the year.
How involved in extra-curricular activities should my student be?
Most selective colleges will tell you it’s not how many activities students are involved in, but how involved they are in the activities they choose. Colleges realize that there are so many hours in a day but they also want to see a well-rounded student and someone that has demonstrated the willingness to be involved in their community and possibly even take a leadership role in a couple of activities.
How many college campuses should I take my child to visit?
Start early in the high school career and visit a few different types of schools (small private liberal arts, large public research universities, big city, small town…). This will help your child get a better feel for what they like and what they don’t like about a particular type of college. You can then narrow your list down to the schools that better fit your child’s needs / wants and go from there.
