I am a school counselor at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky. As you know, the services we provide to our students as school counselors are extremely important. We often, however, have so much responsibility (and so many students assigned to us) that we are unable to provide the depth of services necessary to focus individually on each student. Coaching students in depth on college preparation, entrance exam practice and requirements, and application procedures and deadlines can be especially challenging. We are blessed to have a partner in our community here in Lexington who has been able to provide an extension of services for students who are looking for a community resource to enhance their collegiate preparation.
We have worked closely with Sean Smith and The College Project for several years at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. I have personally recommended Mr. Smith’s organization to many of my students for a variety of reasons. They offer several services, which range from comprehensive college planning to ACT prep courses. Sean has helped many of our students get accepted into extremely competitive colleges. The ACT prep course is an excellent resource as well. I have seen many of my students’ scores jump several points after working through The College Project’s practice course.
Please feel free to reach out to me if I can help answer any questions about how this amazing company can help the students at your school.

I have been a School Counselor at the high school level for the past 12 years. Something I learned early on in my career was how crucial it is to have a strong network of professionals in the community to work with students. I am certainly not an expert in all areas, so I have leaned on others to assist and serve my students as well. One group we have recommended countless times is “The College Project.” The President and founder, Sean Smith, has been instrumental in the success of our students in so many ways. Several Lafayette High School students sign up with him and his team for college planning, advising and also ACT Review services. His team does more than just research colleges and scholarships. They go above and beyond to help students see all of the options, lay all the cards out on the table and then find the best fit.
On top of these services, Sean has voluntarily participated at our Senior Parent/Student Workshop events, Financial Aid Help Sessions and has worked one-on-one with some of my students who had unique circumstances. I have emailed, called and texted him countless times over the years to ask a variety of questions and he has always been quick to respond and willing to help in any way.
Sean and his team have been a great resource for our school and many other high schools in Central Kentucky. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

When I met Sean Smith at a college fair with my children, I had no idea how much of an impact he would have on my family’s lives. Sean worked with all four of my children to find the perfect college fit. He built a relationship with each of my children through periodic meetings, ACT prep classes, and college application workshops. Without his unwavering support, the college search would have been a nightmare. He ensured all of my children were working hard in school, taking the right classes, and staying involved in extra-curricular activities to help build a strong resume for their college applications. I have college graduates from Auburn University and High Point University, and have two other children currently attending Stanford University and The University of Colorado-Boulder. I attribute a big part of my children’s success to the support they garnered from Sean Smith and The College Project! I cannot thank Sean enough for all he has done to help jumpstart my children’s futures.

We have used Sean’s services for both of our sons with incredible results! Sean kept them on task while assisting them with essays, standardized test prep and the whole application process. Outside of the 529 college savings program, this was one of the best financial investments we’ve made for our children. Between both boys, they received over $800,000 in scholarships! Thank you to Sean and his program!

We had a great experience with Sean Smith and The College Project. Our daughter received excellent one-on-one instruction and coaching about every step of the college application process, plus helpful ACT practice sessions. Sean really takes a personal interest in the students he works with and is also great about communicating with parents to keep them involved. His contacts and encouragement really helps students maintain motivation and focus. Our daughter ended up receiving multiple college admission offers and several large scholarships at some very competitive schools. We were totally satisfied and would wholeheartedly recommend Sean Smith and The College Project to anyone who is looking for a great college planner!

I think there are lots of reasons to use Sean. The college search can be very complicated with lots of work needed to be thorough. Colleges are unforgiving when it comes to incomplete applications and missed deadlines. Some high schools try to help with the process, but usually lack the resources to give every student what they need, especially top students. Sean has a deliberate program that gets you there ahead of schedule.
We sometimes would have a conversation with Sean directly to discuss what needed to be done; then let Sean communicate with our son. It was certainly easier for Sean to ask our, already busy, son to do the extra work.
The college search is likely the last big decision, we as parents, get to share in with our children. Sean certainly helped us with the journey.
